Most people understand the temptation to seek recognition. Whether through social media, accomplishments, service, or even acts of faith, we naturally want to be seen, appreciated, and affirmed by others.
But Jesus offers a profound warning in the Sermon on the Mount. Looking at three common religious practices—giving, prayer, and fasting—we discover that these practices can lose both their meaning and their reward when they become performances for others rather than expressions of a relationship with God.
This message explores Jesus' invitation to live for the approval of our heavenly Father rather than the applause of people. It reminds us that the greatest rewards of faith are not found in being noticed by others, but in knowing and being known by God.
It invites us to consider:
Are we practicing our faith to be seen by others, or to know and depend on God?
